I like the screen and feder but it just doesn't hold together. Much seed was being wasted with my other feeder.
Not any waste to speak bigd with this one and easy to clean. I cut a hole in wpodlink plastic garbage can top and put it just above the hook on the feeder. This keeps it dry in all but a hard rain.

I've tried multiple brands and this one is the best because it has a slide-out, perforated tray. All birders know that these trays, during rainy periods, develop a build up of rotting sunflower seeds on the bottom.
The slide out tray makes clean up much easier. The construction of the feeder is of the highest quality and the larger size accommodates more, larger birds when eating in groups. I have 28 Mourning Doves and 8 can eat at a time. I purchased this platform feeder to replace one from Wild Birds Unlimited that had rotted out after about 20 years of use, including being left out during Chicago area winters.
The new one is made out of unseasoned wood, which probably won't last 5 years. My husband rubbed on several coats of his favorite wood dressing one part turpentine, one part vinegar and one part neatsfoot oil , in hopes that this will extend the life a bit. I like the easily removable mesh tray, as this will make cleaning easier. I took off the legs, which would just get in the way.
I couldn't get the unit to hang horizontally from my old pole, so I pulled off the thin plastic-covered wire hangers that came with the new unit and replaced them with the chain from my old platform feeder. One person found this helpful.
The black metal stands just hang down which our deer can reach and poke and push it so the seeds fall to the ground.
Wish the black metal legs would fold easier especially for the price I paid. It was the size I wanted and very well built. I like several ways to use it.
